Mitch and I are officially the big TWO FIVE. Actually, we have been since April 28th- Mitch’s birthday. I turned 25 on January 9th. Nevermind the fact that both of us are regularly mistaken for high school students… we figure hope that that will swing in our favor one day when we’re wishing to look a lot younger than we are.
We’re officially 1/4 of a century. Party on. 🙂
All that to say that I realized I never told you all about Mitch’s birthday bash back in April!
His birthday fell on a Tuesday this year and Mitch has been going to the YMCA to play soccer every Tuesday night. I asked him if he wanted to celebrate on his actual birthday and miss soccer or celebrate a day early. He chose the best of both worlds- celebrating on Monday and playing soccer on Tuesday… it’s his birthday after all, so it’s his choice! I was under strict orders not to throw any type of big surprise party, so I kept it low key, just the two of us, with a few small surprises here and there. I just can’t help myself.
After work on Monday, we set out for our birthday adventure and quickly decided to go for the food first- we were both super hungry. I had planted a menu from Joe’s Crab Shack (a place I had heard about from a friend way back in November and have been saving for Mitch’s birthday… turns out he’s been there already. grrrr.) in the glove compartment for Mitch to find.
Once there, we took a few shots with the Captain and then got right down to business… crab nachos and stuffed mushrooms. Followed by their famous steampots. Yum!
The treated Mitch like royalty- he even got a special birthday bib. 🙂
Our waitress, Bree, was awesome- she should get a raise. I hope you’re reading this, Cap’n Joe. The other strict order I was under from the birthday boy was no arranging for birthday songs in the restaurant. And I swear to you I didn’t, but Bree must have read my mind because before we knew it, this was happening:
Hah! The drum! Gets me every time.
After dinner, we headed over to the KOP mall (Joe’s was right next door) to get Mitch some new sandals- one of the only things he wanted. On the way home, we stopped for a surprise ice cream cone- we took a momentary hiatus from our “no sweets” initiative in honor of the birthday boy. Back at home, I gave Mitch his last few presents- some guitar strings and a cactus for his desk. We ended the night with a few episodes of our newest binge-watching TV show… Friends.
That weekend, we hopped into the car to visit Mitch’s family in Delaware and celebrate with them. There was a bunch of gift-opening and general merriment. 🙂 And a concert! We went to see The Feelies play at World Cafe Live in Philly.
It was a really fun night and Mitch had a blast… all in all, a pretty good birthday!
