I am STOKED about this post! It’s been such a long time coming… nine chapters worth! And today is FINALLY the day I get to show you the (almost) finished product. I say “almost” because it still needs bells and whistles- like the icing on the cake stuff on top. Pretty office supplies, frames with pictures, art on the walls, etc. We’ll get there someday. I’m just thrilled to finally be able to show you… THE OFFICE.
Wahoo! It’s in! Now for how we did it. After sanding, painting, and staining all of the necessary pieces (you can read all about that process here), here’s how it all came together. The desk top is made out of a door that we cut down to size (read about that here). The left side of the door rests on the drawer set and the right side is supported by a 2×4 that is screwed into the wall of the shoe shelves. The first thing we did was place everything where we wanted it and made sure it was straight and level. The desk top is such a snug fit that we could barely squeeze it into place, which came in handy when we needed it to not move while we screwed it in place. After getting it where we wanted it, we screwed the desk top to the drawer set by going up through the top of the drawer set and into the bottom of the desk top.
Once that was done, the 2×4 attached to the other side of the desk top was screwed into the wall.
Desk, check! Now for that shelf…
All we did for this was hold it in place, made sure it was as level as we could get it (this guy’s got some warping going on), and screwed the attached 2x4s directly into the wall, just like the right side of the desk.
And that’s it! A few paint touch ups and we are all good to go!
Here is a sneak peek at some of the accessories I’ve already hunted down for the new space… they will get a mini makeover themselves, so stay tuned.
Also on the list… the more I look at those brown bamboo blinds, the more I want to try my hand at white washing them. I think it would look really cool and make the hangings feel a little less heavy and dark-rain-cloud-ish. If that makes sense. 🙂
Annnnd we can’t forget about the chair. The mini-chair, I should call it (you can see it here). It’s just too small, now that the desk height is higher. I’m thinking something elegant and comfy like this, but in a light gray…
Can’t wait to start dressing up this space!
PS. If you’re feeling really ambitious… or just bored… check out Chapters 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8.
Back in April, we said we wanted to begin posting again like we used to…
