Don’t Panic, Just Fix It

Does this ever happen to you? Something in your house/apartment/dorm/life breaks and you immediately go into panic mode? It’s almost like my brain just goes straight to “oh well, it’s broken… guess it’ll be broken FOREVER”. And then when we stop to really look at the problem and think about it, we realize that it’s not actually so bad and with a little effort and a decent amount of Googling, we can in fact fix it. And then sometimes (but definitely not often, I’ll give you that), we are able to work out the problem on our own. EVEN WITHOUT GOOGLE. Gasp.

Today’s post deals with exactly this… figuring out how to fix the broken drawer in our bathroom cabinet. One time, I pulled the drawer out like usual, except that this time the entire back of it fell off and everything spilled out everywhere. I’m pretty sure I was running late and it was raining that day too. 😉

And then, because of how my brain works, the drawer sat like this on the table outside the bathroom for a few weeks (oh well, I guess we’ll be living like this FOREVER):

Fixing a Drawer

Until one day we both realized how stupid it was to not just fix it and move on and so that’s what we did and I figured I’d show you how to fix a broken drawer, just in case you find yourself in the same scenario… you know, running late on a rainy day sometime. It’s really only a two step process: glue and screw. First we used Elmer’s Wood Glue to glue the back of the drawer back on.

Follow that up with a few screws to secure it in place and you’re all set to go! I’m pretty sure it’s more sturdy now than it was even before it broke… those screws are really heavy-duty.

And that’s it! Let it dry and pop it back into place! Because the “after” product is pretty anticlimactic and just looks like the way it has always (and is supposed to) look, I’ll just leave you with this familiar shot. Yep, this is still our bathroom and it pretty much looks the same now, fixed drawer and all. 🙂

What is that one project in your house that probably just needs a little attention, but you’ve been counting it as gone forever? Please tell me that I’m not the only one who has left a broken drawer on the counter for weeks purely because of unreasonable mourning.
