Dreaming in Driftwood

This has been a long time coming. Since last Christmas… it’s been almost a year and we’ve just now gotten around to making the change that I’ve been excited about for so long! Let me fill you in on the backstory… last year, I fell head over heels in love with this guy:

Driftwood PendantI wanted to replace the old light fixture in the upstairs hallway…

… with the Driftwood Ball Pendant from Shades of Light. We were planning on saving up for it, but the Mitch’s family gifted it to us for Christmas! We were so excited to get it hung up, but weren’t super confident in our electricity skills, so we decided to wait for someone who could help us avoid burning the house down.

Seven months later…

My dad helped us wire the light and then we installed it as per the instructions. I am the last person you want to take electrical advice from, so I won’t even attempt to tell you how we did it. All I know is… match the colors, cap them off, make sure you ground the ground wire. Or something like that. All of the electricians in the house are losing their minds right now. 🙂 Bottom line… go find another tutorial if you’re looking for the how-to. All we’ve got for you today are some pictures of the finished product.

Which I’m thrilled about. Here’s the new light, turned off…

Driftwood PendantLooking at this picture makes me think that the frame could be hung a little higher (we just used the same nail that the original mirror hung on) and that we need something brighter, maybe more colorful in place of that end table. See how one project is not just one project in our house? I have a problem.

And…. ON!

Driftwood Pendant

It casts such neat shadows all over the walls and ceiling and really brings something unique to the hallway.

My only concern is that our ceilings are not very tall… we hung it using only one chain link and it’s a fine height for us, but we’re shorties. I’m afraid some of our taller friends and family might sing a different song. However, it works for us and we’ll definitely be taking it with us whenever we move to our next house… which will hopefully have higher ceilings. 🙂

For now, let me just focus on those gosh-forsaken, still uncovered outlets. My goal was a double post this weekend with the job officially checked off the list, but it just didn’t happen. Grrr….
