Blooms away here in the Thomas household! Since we’ve been living here, I’ve discovered Produce Junction. You know those things that have been around your whole life, but you don’t realize they exist until you’re responsible for your own well-being? Like, I think I had always assumed that doctors and dentist appointments made themselves. Shamefully, I have not been to the dentist in AGES because when we moved and had to find a new one, well, I apparently can’t handle that on my own. Mom, would you come and find me a dentist up here and set everything up, pretty please? Also, never in my life did I wonder how all of the spices got to living in our cabinets growing up. But when we moved and wanted to cook something… apparently cabinets are not just automatically stocked with oregano and nutmeg?! What’s the deal with that? And don’t even get me started on how much it costs to start a measly spice collection- those suckers are expensive!
Wow, sorry- tangent OVER. How did I even get down that road?
Produce Junction. Right. Well, now know why God kept me from there for so long. It’s a dangerous, dangerous place. Filled with colorful plants, fresh fruits and veggies… all super cheap. Oh, the temptation! So I succumbed and now our house looks like the Garden of Eden, which we’re not hating, really. We have plants as far as the eye can see! I’m developing an unhealthy habit. Allow me to take you on a tour of a few of our newest housemates.
Before we do that, though, let’s talk prices. Do me a favor: scroll back up to that last picture and read some of the prices on those flowers. Dollars, people. Doll-ars. Needless to say, when I saw the $4 per dozen ROSES sign, I just about fainted.
And then immediately pulled myself together and started filling my cart. Just picture me prancing and bouncing round and round that kiosk with a bundles of flowers in each hand, petals falling from the sky, and this song playing in the background. All in slow motion, of course. Now that you’ve got that in your head… 🙂 Here’s what I ended up with- three big bunches for a grand total of $9. Nine buckaroos.
A dozen light pink roses, a large bunch of pink mini carnations, and a bundle of spider mums. From there, I just grabbed as many jars and fill-able things that I could find from around the house and went to work snipping, clipping, and filling until I had bouquets to place around the house. Want the tour? Let’s start in the family room. On the coffee table, I put one of the bigger arrangements with all three types of flowers.
My favorite part is how the flowers and the pile of magazines bring such a zing of color to the very brown coffee table.
I also stuck a few stems into the spherical glass piece on the hanging shelves- just a few blooms did the trick over here! For some reason, this reminds me of Beauty and the Beast. Don’t know why.
And on the other side, a blue Mason jar filled with those hot pink mini carnations atop a stack of books? Done.
Ok, let’s finish up the family room with the side table by the window. I changed it up here by grabbing a mug, snipping a few spider mums super short, and creating an itsy bitsy (get it?) bunch for the small table.
I don’t know, I think mugs could be the new vase!
Who’s with me? Anyone?… Just me, then? Ok, fine- let’s keep going 🙂 In the kitchen, the table got a shot of spring with some clear Mason jars paired with a few roses, a spider mum, and some baby’s breath each.
Note that the frames still say “Valentine” and it’s April. Whoops. Oh, and can we note how the fake sparkly fruit has now been our centerpiece since December? This could be either one of two things- a brilliant, multi-functional use of decor OR sheer laziness. I’ll let you decide. 🙂
And on the infamous floating shelves, I recycled the mug idea- which is fitting because those shelves hold all of our mugs anyway.
So there you have it- how we’ve been springifying the house, one mug and Mason jar at a time! And because you’ve been so patient through all of the pollen and petals (especially you guys out there who read), here’s a bonus. This little guy has been keeping me company on my dresser upstairs. What a cutie!
Any fresh flowers happening at your place? Any Pennsylvania people (is Produce Junction in any other states?) out there who have a healthy obsession with PJ like me? Or maybe you have your own secret places… do share!
