It’s all the rage right now, so I thought I’d post our…. Ice Bucket Challenge! This blog is a bit of a time capsule for us and will eventually be a neat way to look back (now at 85 posts!) at some of the things that we did to the house, places we’ve traveled to as a family, and adventures we’ve had. I figured that this little tidbit will be a fun way to see what was popular and trending years from now. Not to mention that it’s for a great cause…
I read an article a few days ago that was lamenting about how dumping a bucket of ice water over your head doesn’t actually do anything to help ALS, let alone raise awareness. While I’m not sure that is totally true, it did get me thinking… and just in time for Mitch and I to get nominated to do the challenge ourselves by my lovely cousin, Megan. Actually, let me introduce you:PS. This is what happens when you leave your phone unattended at our family gatherings… manymanymanymany selfies. Sooo….I made a Megan collage. 🙂 #selfiehacked
Anyway, when Mitch and I were nominated, we knew that just dumping a bucket of ice on our head would not actually make us (or anyone else for that matter) more aware of what ALS was. The verdict: we’d do the challenge, but also challenge ourselves to learn something new about the disease that we did not already know. From there, we would nominate our next “contestants” and challenge them to do the same: dump the ice and share a fact that they learned on their video. Here is ours:
If you couldn’t hear, our facts (taken from the ALS website) were:
It has been really cool to see the ripple effect of other people sharing a fact that they learned and I’ve heard that the challenge has, in fact, raised quite a bit of money for the ALS foundation. It’s refreshing to see people come together to make positive change in the world. Inspiring, really…
In the spirit of things, LET’S STRIKE OUT ALS!!!
Have a great weekend,
Leslie
