Going Ape

I pulled this baby waaaaaay out of the old Drafts folder and dusted it off because it has officially been about a year since we did this, but it was so much fun and such a great day that I wanted to share it with you. And remember it for all time so that when we’re old and no longer able to walk, we can reminisce about the fact that we did THIS.

Last year, for our anniversary, we got a few gift cards from family and for awhile we couldn’t figure out how to use them. Our challenge is always “how can we spend this so that we both get enjoyment from the purchase”? Getting something “for the house” is not always super exciting for Mitch, so we changed it up and used the money to spend a day at Go Ape in Lums Pond State Park in DE.

Essentially, it’s a series of five high ropes obstacle courses and five ziplines (most across water!). In a word- it was incredible. Exhausting, thrilling, and challenging, but incredible. We highly recommend.

The first thing they do when you arrive is check you in, help you get suited up…

…and give you the run-down of how the harnesses work. Then we got to practice with some “on the ground” elements before heading off up into the big trees.

This place was so cool! We did everything from tight rope walking to climbing up nets and across ladders to swinging from one rope to another. Each “obstacle” ended with a zip line ride, usually across the pond! It was so much fun and we were exhausted by the end from all of that monkeying around… but pretty pumped to get our certificates and our picture taken at the finish line.

And just for fun… here’s a quick video of the day. 🙂 Enjoy!
