Loving the Limelight

Welcome to the first of many “Project Bathroom” posts! A few days ago, I shared the vision for our hall bathroom…

We’ve got a great space to work with… good bones, good natural light; all she needs is a little lovin’ to make her shine again! Enter our paint color of choice, “Limelight” by Behr. I think you’ll agree after you see some progress shots- some new paint was just what the doctor ordered. To refresh your memory (or if you missed a past post), here is what our hall bathroom looked like when we first walked through the house.

Hall Bathroom

After we moved in, the very first thing to tackle was the caulking around the tub and shower. There was none. And seeing as how, for the first four months of living here, this was the only usable shower in the house (our master bathroom needed some heftier modifications before it would be ready for use)… well, caulking was definitely in order. Caulk around the tub and shower helps to seal off the spaces that water and moisture could seep in and cause mold and mildew down the road.

The next step in the process was to give some attention to the many holes, pockmarks, and dings in the walls. This room needed a full spackle job and after that was done, it looked like a case of the chicken pox. Spackle spots everywhere!

And then, finally, after sanding down all of the patches of spackle, we were ready for paint! This is where I took a seat on the bench and tagged Mitch in… pregnancy and paint fumes are not a good mix. 🙂

All of the walls got two solid coats of Limelight and right away, the room felt so much cleaner and more homey.

Although having the walls painted felt like a breath of fresh air, all the sudden that brown wooden door stuck out like sore thumb. It’s almost as if making one thing prettier just highlights the ugliness of other eyesores close by!

Painting the Hall BathroomSoooo…. the door and trim got a fresh coat of Ultra Bright White by Behr in semigloss (our go-to paint for trim).

Painting the Doors White-001Wowza, it looks like a new room in there! We really love how the color turned out and it has proven to be a great foundation for layering in other textures, colors, and accents to complete the space. But that, my friends, is a different story for a different day… for now, we’ll just bask in the glow of the Limelight. 😉
