Scrapbooking a Box??

Now, before you get too excited, I have to warn you… I have no “after” pictures of the project you are about to see. Glimpses, but no full reveal pictures. THE SHAME. I don’t know what I was thinking. I’m so sorry, friends. But I’m going to show you this project anyway because, well, you can use your imaginations for the end result. 🙂

In our family room, we have a box where we keep all of our candles- it is a nice big box that can fit a lot and it sits under the coffee table where it’s easily accessible. See it below? Super handy! I love having all of our candle options in one place for when we’re looking for a relaxing evening at home.

The only issue was that, while the box itself is pretty, it just didn’t go with the look we have in the family room.

Because it has provided such great storage, I was determined to figure out a way to make it work. And then. One day at Michaels (the start to all great crafting stories) this happened…

… and the little light bulb clicked on inside my head. Let’s cover it for a whole new look! All it took for this project was some scrapbooking paper (I went with a navy, pattered one), some scissors, a foam brush, and a bottle of Mod Podge.

Before getting into the gluing, I cut my pieces out to fit the sides and top of the box. From there, all it took was a coat of Mod Podge, adding the paper, and following it up with a final coat of Mod Podge.

For the corners, I cut a little slit in the corner, folded each side, and glued them. Bada bing, bada boom.

All the way around the box I went until the whole thing was covered. Bam, looks like a totally new box! And here’s the part where we all mutter insults my way because I forgot to take a picture of the final product. BUT, here is what it looked like before…

And here is (kind of) what it looks like now…

You get the gist. 🙂 And oh, my goodness… the difference in how that room has evolved… sometimes I forget until I see two pictures side by side!

Anyone else opting for a quick makeover, in lieu of just pitching something that doesn’t match or belong? Way to go, you innovative thinkers!
