The New Black

Yesterday I promised you paint and I’m here to deliver! We left off with the freshly finished cabinet built underneath the downstairs bathroom sink. Here it is to jolt your memory:

Finished, but not pretty. I know in my original moodboard thinking, the plan was to go dark teal with the color, but we’ve since changed direction a bit. The main reason is that I had some perfectly good black paint on hand and I could at least finish the job and make it look presentable for now. If later, we still want to go teal, well there’s always time for that.

Also, tomorrow is the big Giani Countertop Makeover (and GIVEAWAY!) and I reeeeaaalllyyy wanted some pretty finished cabinets to compliment the newly treated counter top. Seriously, I cannot wait to show you. And it would have been a little bit of a let down to have a beautiful new counter top, paired with an ugly-duckling, not-yet-finished, mismatched wood set of cabinets right below it. Since I had to have the project done in time for tomorrow’s post, I just used what I had on hand… enter, BLACK.

And oh, my gosh, I actually really really like it. Like a lot. But let me pick up from where we left off yesterday. After I finished building the cabinet, the next step was filling the holes and cracks with wood filler and paintable caulk and removing the doors to give everything a good sanding before painting.

Hint: Keep all of the hardware and screws in labeled bags for easy reassembly!

First coat of black paint on… it was about this time that I started really liking the look. 🙂

I ended up putting 2-3 coats on the entire thing- frame and two doors- and that seemed to do the trick.

After everything dried, all it took was a quick reassembly, some new cabinet pulls, and we’re back in business!

Ta-da!

Hmmm… I like the black so much, it might just stick around for awhile… Aka. Do I really want to go through the hassle of painting again? Hah! 🙂

PS. Don’t forget to stop back in tomorrow to see the big counter top reveal, featuring Giani Granite Countertops! PLUS, there will be an opportunity to win a KIT OF YOUR OWN!!! What a good day tomorrow is shaping up to be…
