2015 Vacation Superlatives

We love superlatives around here. Something about remembering the best and the worst of years and trips past conjure up beautiful memories, all the while keeping it real and reminding us that this is real life. And there are rough spots. And most of time time, those rough spots make for good stories later in life. So, here it is: the good, the bad, and the unforgettable of this year’s family vaca to the Sunshine State!

Psst. Want a quick long and drawn out play-by-play? You can read all about our trip here: Day 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 & 8.

Right, then. Let’s do this. Buckle up because we could be here for as long as it took us to drive from Orlando to the Keys… which you’d only know if you read Day 4. 🙂

Most Relaxing: Reading is this room after a long day of being out in the sun…

Best School Spirit: Us, trying on Gryffindor House robes! No, we did not buy them… just snapped a quick poser picture. 🙂

Most Disappointing: This is one that we couldn’t agree on, so we’ve got two answers. Mitch’s most disappointing part of the trip was the Haunted Mansion in Disney World that was not really haunted. While I was totally fine with that (I’m kind of a wuss), Mitch was hoping for more thrills and spooks. My disappointing moment was during the fireworks at Disney- it was crowded and we didn’t get a great spot to watch them, so we ended up standing the whole time. The show was still great, but I would have liked to have been able to get there earlier, grab some ice cream, and find a nice place to sit and watch it from start to finish.

Funniest Moment: Mitch, playing the role of a Suit of Armor during the Beauty and the Beast play.

Most Amphibian: The frogs from the Frog Choir! They were great!

Road Trip MVP: My Andy Grammer Pandora playlist… we blasted AG and friends for most of our ride.

Most Thrilling: This is another one we’ve got two winners for… Mitch’s pick and my pick. Mitch’s “most thrilling” moment was jet skiing.

And mine? The “Forbidden Journey” ride at Harry Potter World… again, wuss.

Best Deal: Our trip with The Fury! Where else can you get a boat ride, snorkeling, kayaking, water toys, jet skiing, and parasailing for cheap?? And the best part- it was SO much fun! Read all about it here.

Best Breakfast: Fresh bagels, fruit, and juice every morning at Irene and Ed’s house. Yum! Oh, and the view wasn’t bad either! The water was nice too… 🙂

Most Surprising: TINKERBELL at the Wishes Spectacular show! We had no idea that a live person would soar from the top of Cinderella’s castle… I would pay money just to see that again.

Most Educational: Snorkel School on The Fury. Before we went snorkeling, we all had to sit through Snorkel School- which was actually quite interesting!

Scariest Moment: Almost running out of gas while driving back up to Orlando on Day 7! Now, you have to know this about me: I’m a bit of a daredevil when it comes to waiting as long as I can before refilling my tank. THIS though, was absolutely nuts. According to the road signs, the next gas station/rest stop was just 9 miles away and we had over 30 miles left in the tank… I am not kidding you when I say that we drove that car all the way down to ZERO, all the while panicking that there was not a gas station to be seen! Just as soon as the tank hit zero miles left, I’m telling you, a rest stop came out of NOWHERE. Totally a God moment.

Favorite Meal: This one is a tie… Between dinner at the Three Broomsticks-the Chicken and Rib meal was out of this world!

…and dinner at Charlie Mac’s in Key West. Some of the best smoked BBQ either of us had ever had!

Proudest Moment: Making it all the way to MILE MARKER ZERO!!!

Best Memory: It’s way too hard to pick a single favorite day out of the whole bunch. So really, it’s near impossible to pick a favorite memory. Our lives are so busy and our schedules so here and there that our best memory from the trip was probably just being able to have so much time to adventure together. Time is super precious and it never seems like there is enough of it, so having an extended amount of time that we could spend together made for a truly amazing trip. And now that you’re thoroughly disgusted with the cheesiness that’s taking over this post, I’m checking out.

Thanks for tagging along on the best and worst of our big trip! And don’t worry- the fun isn’t over yet (I know you were losing sleep over that)… we’ve still got the big video to put up. Next week, hopefully! And then we’ll really be done with all things vacation. Some of you are rejoicing- don’t worry, the end is in sight!
