A Week in Florida- Our Trip Itinerary

So you already know we’re headed to Florida for vacation this year…

FLO.RIDA.

Although we’re still a ways out from our trip to the Sunshine state, we’ve had most of the details planned out for awhile now! Can you tell we’re excited? 🙂 Here’s the run-down so far:

Day 1: Fly into Orlando. Our flight leaves at 2:30pm out of Philly and we land in Orlando at about 5:20pm. We’ll check into our hotel for the night and find somewhere to grab a nice dinner.

Day 2: Harry Potter World, Universal Studios! This is definitely a bucket list item and we are THRILLED to have a little bit of time to magic our way through Hogwarts, Diagon Alley, and all of the other sights and sounds that HPW has to offer. We’ve only got a day here, so we’ve been reading up on how to do and see the most in that amount of time. Tips and tricks are MOST welcome (sound off in the comments!)… what are the “must sees”?

Day 3: Magic Kingdom, Disney World! This one is a fan favorite repeat for us. We visited Disney with Mitch’s mom, step dad, and sister back in 2012 and LOVED it. Magic Kingdom was definitely the highlight and we’ve been wanting to go back and see it since the big renovation. Again, we only have one day so we’ve got to make the most of our time. Same story about the tips and tricks… got any? Please share!

Day 4: Drive from Orlando to Sugarloaf Key. This is where we’ll be staying for our three nights in the Keys. Sugarloaf is in a perfect spot- it’s about 30 minutes from Key West and 30 minutes from Bahia Honda State Park (going back up north). Essentially, it’s right in the middle of a lot of different things to do and see. Oh, and the drive? STUN.NING.

Day 5: Day trip on The Fury. This is a company that I’ve experienced before (a few college girlfriends and I all went down to Key West for a week my freshman year) and thought that if Mitch and I ever got the chance to come down this way, we HAD to do one of their excursions. They have all sorts of packages, but we chose the Ultimate Adventure Trip. It’s a full day out on the water on a catamaran. First, they take you out for an hour of snorkeling before loading everyone back in to continue sailing until they anchor out at sea for the rest of the day. Once anchored, you have the chance to jet ski, kayak, swim, parasail, and play on the huge water inflatables they have. And all of that, plus breakfast, lunch, snacks and drinks throughout the day for one steal of a price (we’ll chat about how we searched around for deals and steals for this trip in a different post). We can’t WAIT! My favorite memory of my last time doing this was the parasailing and I’m so excited to do it again with Mitch!

Day 6: Day to Relax. We might drive up to Bahia Honda State Park (their beaches are really nice) or just hang out in Sugarloaf. Maybe do dinner in Key West and watch the sunset over Duval Street, while the street performers do their thing. Visit the famous Southernmost Point (90 miles to Cuba!). Overall, just a chill day. 🙂

Bahia Honda

Day 7: Drive from Sugarloaf Key to Orlando. Again, we have a full day to make the trip, so we want to make sure to stop at some good eats and maybe see a few things we didn’t catch on the trip down. Dinner and relaxing in Orlando should round out the trip nicely.

Day 8: Fly back to Philly! Our flight leaves at 8:30am… not too early, not too late. We’ll land around 11:30am, make our way home (hopefully not too sunburned!), and probably crash from exhaustion. Chances are, we’ll be bone tired, but full of happy Florida memories. That’s the goal, anyway…

So there you have it- a full week of sun, surf, Mickey, and Harry. Please please please- if you’ve done any of these things before and have any “wish I’d known that” tips for us, we’re eating that stuff up like it’s those famous Mickey waffles at Disney (which are SO stinkin’ good). Can’t wait to pack you in our carry-ons and take you with us! I’ve already got plans to check out some of that Key West home style, fill you in on what worked and didn’t work on our one-day-only at HPW and MK, and bring back another vacation montage like the one we put together from last year’s trip. Vacation, hurry up and GET HERE! 🙂

PS. Chapter 3 of our Spare Room Closet Saga is coming your way TOMORROW, so stay tuned!
