Chapter 6: Pulling Back the Curtain

Psst. I don’t know many people who start a book at Chapter 6… check out Chapters 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 to catch up!

Actually, maybe this post should be entitled, “putting up the curtain” because that’s exactly what we’re up to today. Ok, let’s back up and do a quick recap for those just joining. Here is the 30 second synopsis. You can time me… ready, GO!

Once upon a time, we had a closet in the Spare Room.

That we wanted to convert into an office. You can find all of the links to the inspiration pictures here.

So we pulled off the doors.

And took everything out.

No Doors (Spare Closet)

And hung some bamboo blinds to hide the top shelves.

Spare Closet Bamboo BlindsThe next step is to hide the shoe shelves. Which is why we are here today. BAM, 30 seconds, no?

The plan was to hang a curtain rod going the full length of the closet so that we could put up a curtain that would cover the shoe shelves, but could be pulled aside easily to get to the shelves.

Spare Closet Planning

This is going to be a short and sweet post because we don’t need to go into the details of hanging the rod (we used the same method as we did in this post). I just grabbed a white one so that it would blend in and some hanging hardware. The rod came from Home Depot and the hardware from Lowes. The rod itself actually came with a hanging mechanism, but I wanted one that we could lift the rod up and out if we needed to remove the curtains for washing, so I grabbed a different type from Lowes.

All I did was install it right under where the door glider is.

And then hung a curtain and called it a day!

Sometime down the road, we will probably change out the curtain (we have plans for possibly changing the color scheme of this room), but for now I was just working with what I had. Aka. what was free. 🙂 I love it because it’s easy to maneuver whenever we need to get in there.

Spare Closet CurtainWe probably won’t keep it fully closed like this very often, but here’s a shot with both panels up and pulled all the way across, just for kicks.

Curtains ClosedSo that’s it! Told you it would be quick! And as of now, we are officially READY to start building the desk that will go in there. Plans are actually underway as I type this… hooray!
