Go For the Gold

My heart sunk. All this way? I’d waited all this time and now nothing?

I told you yesterday– I’ve been waiting a long time to get to go and visit the infamous Hobby Lobby. I had heard so many great things about it- tons of home decor goodies, DIY and craft supplies, and super low prices… but the closest one is over an hour away. So when the chance to go finally came around, I was SO excited! Cheap home stuff? Count me in. I even had a list going in!

The one thing I definitely had my hopes up for… out of everything… was the selection of knobs and hardware I had heard so much about. And let me tell you, this view did not disappoint:

Row upon row of these little colorful gems- I couldn’t get enough! The only problem was… while it seemed like the entire rest of the store was 50% off, these guys were full price. Not such a big deal for one or two, but we are looking to update the hardware on all of our kitchen cabinets (22 knobs), plus I needed hardware for the new desk (6), PLUS  a few more for a couple of projects I have up my sleeve. That’s a lot of hardware to buy at full price. You know those stores that you never shop at without a coupon or a sale because there is always one available? That’s Hobby Lobby, so the fact that the one thing I was really there to buy was not on sale the one week I was there to visit was so frustrating! I really didn’t want to pay full price, but who knew when we’d be back next? My heart sunk. All this way? I’d waited all this time and now nothing? What a dilemma!

As you already know if you read yesterday’s post, what I ended up doing was buying 6 little green knobs for the desk that were on clearance for $1.36 each. As pretty as they are, they didn’t quite fit in with the look I was going for with the desk, so I took them outside and gave them a couple coats of gold spray paint.

Ta-da! Good as gold! Then all it took was screwing them onto the desk drawers and we’re in business…

I really like the contrast of the gold against the bright white drawers.

Speaking of gold, a few other office supplies got the same royal treatment as the knobs. I’ve always liked the Nate Berkus line of office supplies in Target and I figured that I could get the same look with just a bit of spray paint.
